Its seat is the village of Gołcza, which lies approximately convert|8|km|mi|0 west of Miechów and convert|31|km|mi|0|abbr=on north of the regional capital Kraków.

The gmina covers an area of convert|90.27|km2|sqmi|1, and as of 2006 its total population is 6,265.

The gmina contains part of the protected area called Dłubnia Landscape Park.
