Its seat is the village of Babice, which lies approximately convert|8|km|mi|0 south-east of Chrzanów and convert|36|km|mi|0|abbr=on west of the regional capital Kraków.

The gmina covers an area of convert|54.47|km2|sqmi|1, and as of 2006 its total population is 8,803.

The gmina contains part of the protected area called Tenczynek Landscape Park.
