Its seat is the town of Stryków, which lies approximately convert|15|km|mi|0 north-east of Zgierz and convert|17|km|mi|0|abbr=on north-east of the regional capital Łódź.

The gmina covers an area of convert|157.84|km2|sqmi|1, and as of 2006 its total population is 12,120 (out of which the population of Stryków amounts to 3,566, and the population of the rural part of the gmina is 8,554).

The gmina contains part of the protected area called Łódź Hills Landscape Park.
