Bhattmewada Brahmins

Bhattmewada brahmins are believed to have originated from Mevada, Rajasthan, India. It is believed during the Mughal rule in 1500-1600 A.D a large section of this group were at odds with the Mughal rule which they opposed. Most of them migrated to Northern part of Gujarat (State South of Rajasthan) and settled in Sabarkantha, Banaskantha, Himmatnagar, Ahmedabad, Baroda and Bombay.

A large section of this community is now settled in Ahmedabad and Himmatnagar.
