Its seat is the village of Śliwice, which lies approximately convert|25|km|mi|0 north-east of Tuchola and convert|68|km|mi|0|abbr=on north of Bydgoszcz.

The gmina covers an area of convert|174.75|km2|sqmi|1, and as of 2006 its total population is 5,430.

The gmina contains part of the protected area called Tuchola Landscape Park.
