Sand River (South Africa)

The Sand River, in South Africa is 80 kilometers which is very short and shallow compared to the standard river lengths in Africa. It derives its name from the fact that in the drought season the sandy banks starts to show on both sides. The water forming the water body or the river comes from seasonal rains that fall for a short while, but sufficient to maintain the lives of the animals living around this river.

Animals

Animals that live near the river include african elephants, cape buffalo, water birds , wading birds, lions, deer.
