Stephanie Barber is an American artist who, though having produced and shown work in many media, is best known as an
experimental filmmaker and writer whose films include "catalog", "dogs", "total power:dead dead dead", "shipfilm" and many other short films and videos.Biography
Her film and video work is most notable for the deconstructive elements of her (often)strangely narrative and poetic soundtracks and the tensions these create when married to her mysterious and painstakingly composed images (these latter often constructed from found films or still images and hyperreferential to their source medium). Ms. Barber has had solo exhibitions of her film work at
The Museum of Modern Art , theSan Francisco Cinematheque ,Chicago Filmmakers ,Anthology Film Archives and many other museums, galleries and universities. Her film "it fell possum" was included in theWhitney Museum of American Art 's exhibition, The American Century.
