Bonka

Bonka

Bonka is a Colombian fusion band. Soon after forming, the group won all the national awards of "Artist of the Year", as their five first songs were in the Top Ranking on local radio.

This success was a novelty in Colombia, since this was the first time that a young band had gotten such high ranking with their first album. Their songs "La Mona", "El Problemón", "Traga Maluca", "La Visa" and "Tarde de abril" are well-known among teenagers and young adults. "Hoy" has become a hymn for students who finish school, owing to the lyrics. Alejandro González (voice and guitar), Daniel Mora (bass), Felipe Harker (drums), Juan José Barake (percussion), and Nicolás Barake (guitar and chorus) began as an amateur band playing covers from artists like Diego Torres and The Used for several school events in Bogotá.

History of the band

The band was formed in 2002. It was soon considered a Revelation Band among Bogotá schools. Since 2003, their compositions have become famous and sung by thousands of students. In November, 2004, the band won an interscholastic competition, organized by Hard Rock Café, "88.9", El Redoblante and Shock Magazine. After this award, they were chosen to play in the Shock Awards in 2004 and 2005. As a result of the success, they decided to debut with their first single "El Problemón", written by Alejandro González and produced by Nicolás Rodríguez. From the beginning, they have played in more than 190 concerts and their first album has already won Platinum in Colombia.

Having won Shock Awards, Artist of the year from El Tiempo, and Best New Artist from RCN Radio, this band is now also popular in Peru and Ecuador. The international edition of their album, "Lo que nunca nos contamos", is now being produced by Sebastian Kris at Warehouse Studios in Miami.

Youtube and Myspace are the favorite platform of their fans because they have not signed with a formal international record company. Their singles are already played at clubs and bars in many cities in the United States, Mexico, Central America and other countries.
