The IAC began at a seminar in
Dakar in 1984 with a focus on fighting harmful practices relating tofemale genital mutilation (FGM),childbirth ,nutrition and food, earlymarriage ; and promoting traditional practices considered beneficial, such asbreastfeeding and baby massage.
