Stanley is a village located roughly half way between Derby and Ilkeston in Derbyshire, England. The village is part of the Stanley and Stanley Common Local Government Parish, Stanley Common being a separate village a little to the North. Since 1974 it has been part of the Borough of Erewash. The main local employer was traditionally the coal industry until the Stanley Colliery closed in 1959. The Church of England Church of St Andrew dates from the 12th Century and still contains a few Norman features. It was greatly restored in 1876. Stanley has a pub, a Post Office and Newsagent, a Village Hall and a Primary School.
