Rafe Champion

Rafe Champion (born July 1945) is an Australian writer. He was born in the Australian state of Tasmania, and grew up on a farm in the northern part of that state, near Irishtown. He studied agricultural science at the University of Tasmania in Hobart, then went to the University of Adelaide for postgraduate study before moving to Sydney.

Champion's main interest is in bringing to wider attention the works of the Austrian philosopher Karl Popper and the Austrian economist Friedrich Hayek. He is also a contributor to [http://www.clubtroppo.com.au Club Troppo] and Catallaxy files, two collaborative blogs based in Australia.

In the late 1970s he married artist Kilmeny Niland. They have four children: Leo, Hugh, Patrick and Tom Champion. Tom will be launching his own writing career in August 2008, with the release of children's book Cindy-Ella through Scholastic Press.

Champion has written a number of nonfiction books, two of them collaborations with his mother in law, Ruth Park. The two collaborations are "Ruth Park's Sydney", a guidebook, and "Home Before Dark", a biography of Australian boxer Les Darcy. He has also written a book of collected essays and reviews related to Karl Popper, and a useful handbook on real-estate law.
