Throughout the majority of the history of the club, Hull have worn black and amber shirts with black shorts. These black and amber colours are where Hull's nickname, "The Tigers", originated from.cite web

1904-1915

During their first season in the League, Hull wore black and amber striped shirts and black shorts. They wore the same style shirts until 1909. In 1909 Hull started wearing black shirts with black shorts and socks. They wore this kit for the 1909-10 season. In the 1910-11 season Hull went back to wearing the Tiger stripes of Hull, black and amber striped shirts and black shorts. They wore this kit until 1914. In the 1914-15 season the black shirt was worn again with the same socks but with white shorts.

1916-1935

In 1916-1918 Hull played in the black and amber shirts with black shorts and black socks. In 1918-1919 Hull played in black and amber striped shirts with white shorts and black socks. From 1919 to 1921 Hull played in black and amber striped shirts with black shorts and black socks. In 1922-1935 Hull played in black and amber striped shirts with white shorts and black socks.

1936-1945

In 1935-36 Hull played in a sky blue top with white shorts and black socks. From 1936-1945 City played in the black and amber shirts with black shorts and black socks.

1945-1960

In 1945 Hull played in the sky blue top with white shorts and black socks until 1947. Hull started to play in plain amber in 1947 with black shorts and black and amber socks. From 1947-1960 the shirts and shorts stayed the same with slight variations of the socks.

1960-1975

In 1960 Hull started playing in the black and amber shirts again. They played in black shorts and black and amber socks until 1964. In 1964 they played in amber tops with two black horizontal stripes on them. They played in amber shorts and amber socks from 1964-1965. From 1965-1972 City played in amber shirts, black shorts and amber shorts. The shirt in 1971-71 had a tiger head in the middle. In 1972 they started playing in amber shirts with black on the collar, black shorts and black socks. They used that kit until 1975.

1975-1982

From 1975-1978 The Tigers started playing in black and amber stripes again, but with fewer stripes. They wore white shorts and white socks. 1978-79 they played in the same shirts, but with black shorts and amber socks. 1979-80 they played in the same kit, but with slightly different socks. In 1980-82 they played in similar shirts, but with black around the collar and on the arms. They wore the same shorts but with black socks.

1982-1990

In 1982-83 Hull started playing in amber shirts with thin red lines on. They played in black shorts and red socks. In 1983-84 they played in the same kit but with HYGENA on it. In 1984-86 they played in amber shirts with faint amber stripes, with Arrow Air written on it. They played in the same black shorts. The socks were red, black and amber. In 1986-87 they played in amber shirts with red on the shoulders with Twydale on the middle. They played in black shorts with red stripes on the side. The socks were the same black, red and amber socks. In 1987-88 the kit was the same, but it had Mansfield Becks on and plain amber socks. In 1988-89 they played in amber tops with red and black on the shoulders and Riding Bitter written on it. They played in black shorts with a red vertical line on. They played in amber socks. 1989-90 they played in the same kit but with Humberside written on it.

1990-2000

In 1990-1992 City played in black and amber stripes with Bonus written on it. They played in black shorts and black socks with an amber bar at the top. In 1992-93 Hull's kit was black and amber tiger stripe design. It was nominated for the worst football kit ever.cite news

] It had black shorts and black socks. From August-December 1993 they took Bonus off it and put Pepis on. From January 1994 they played in a similar top but with more black bits on it. In May 1994 they changed the sponsor on the kit. They left it the same until 1995. In 1995 the kit was changed to an amber shirt with black shorts and amber socks. It had IBC as the sponsor. This was the same kit until 1997. In 1997-98 they changed it to a black and amber stripe shirt with black shorts and black socks. It had University of Hull on it. 1998-99 The shirt was black and white stripes with black sleeves. It had black shorts and black socks with orangey amber stripes. 1999-2000 the kit was black and amber stripes again with IBC on. It had black shorts and socks.

2000-2007

In the 2000-01 season the kit was amber with black and white on the shoulder and arms. It was also sponsored by IBC with black shorts and black and amber socks. 2001-02 the kit was plain amber with Sportscard written on it. The kit had black shorts and amber socks. 2002-04 the kit was amber with Bonus Electrical written on it. With black shorts and amber socks. 2004-05 the shirt was black and amber striped, black shorts and amber socks. 2005-06 the shirt was similar but with more stripes. It had similar shorts and similar socks.2006-07 the kit was similar again but with fewer stripes. It had plain black shorts and amber socks. The away shirt was black with Bonus Electrical written on it.

2007- present

2007-08 the kit was Amber with black and amber paths on the armpits with black shorts and black shorts; it says Karoo, the name of their sponsor, Kingston Communications' ISP, on it. The away kit is a white shirt with Kingston Communications on it. White shorts and white socks.

In April 2008 Hull announced their new away kit for 2008-09 The shirt is mainly flint with amber seams. It is made of 100% polyester. It has Kingston Communications on the middle as the sponsor. The Hull City badge, unlike previous kits, is in the centre just under the Umbro symbol.cite news

] The away shorts are a dark flint colour. The away socks are flint with amber stripes in the middle with cut out flint diamonds with the Umbro symbol above it. They are made of 97% nylon 2% elastane and 1% polyester.
