Derek Wathan (born December 13, 1976 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa) was a professional baseball player who is currently retired. He was a switch hitting middle infielder. He is the son of former MLB player,and MLB manager John Wathan. He is also the brother of former MLB player and Phillies minor league manager Dusty Wathan. Wathan attended the University of Oklahoma for college, and was selected by the Florida Marlins in the second round of the 1998 Major League Baseball Draft. Wathan played for 11 seasons with several different organizations. He signed a contract with the Detroit Tigers for 2008 and announced his retirement at the end of the 2008 season. He is married to Heather and they have two children, Knox and Brooke. They currently reside in Texas.
