Oryza longistaminata A. Chev. & Röhr, can be found in the USA where it is regarded as a noxious weed, and in the Nylsvley Nature Reserve in South Africa. Its common names are Longstamen Rice and Red Rice [1]

Host resistance gene, Xa21,from Oryza longistaminata is integrated into the genome of Oryza sativa for the broad range resistance of rice blight disease caused by Xanthomonas oryzae pv. oryzae [2]
