Heichinrou

Heichinrou (Kanji: 聘珍樓, Hiragana: へいちんろう, Chinese: Pìn-zhen-lou), is the oldest and most famous restaurant in Yokohama's Chinatown; the restaurant also owns branches in Hong Kong, Tokyo, and New York City. The name of the restaurant, approximately translated means "wealthy treasure pavilion".

The restaurant opened in 1887 as Japan was beginning to trade with foreign nations. Originally the restaurant catered to Chinese traders living in Japan. Today, Heichinrou caters to both Chinese and Japanese tastes. Their menu rotates seasonally and contains several dishes which are unique to the restaurant. However, the restaurant still retains some of its original recipies, and specializes primarily in Cantonese cuisine. They are famous famous for their "kaisen ryori", a set banquet consisting of various types of seafoods, from sea bass to lobster. As Heichinrou has become a luxury restaurant, these set meals are often quite expensive, costing up to 12,600 yen (about 121 USD or 77 EUR) per head.

Heichinrou was featured on the Japanese television series "Iron Chef", with its chefs competing against Chen Kenichi. Chen managed to defeat two of their head chefs before losing to the grand chef.
