Sean Alec Zumwalt (born January 20, 1981 in Kingman, Arizona) is a pitcher for the Camden Riversharks of the independent Atlantic League.

Zumwalt and his family moved to Kernersville, North Carolina in 1993. He attended East Forsyth High School in Kernersville. In November 1998, Alec signed a letter of intent to attend the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill on a baseball scholarship.

Minor league career

Zumwalt was selected by the Atlanta Braves in the 4th round (144th overall) of the by|1999 amateur entry draft. He started his professional career as an outfielder for the Rookie league GCL Braves. He advanced to the Rookie-Advanced Danville Braves in by|2000, and the next year advanced to the Class A Macon Braves. In his second season with Macon, by|2002, he made the transition to pitcher. Also during that season, he was promoted to the Class A-Advanced Myrtle Beach Pelicans. In by|2003, Zumwalt spilt his time in between Myrtle Beach and the Double-A Greenville Braves, finishing the season with a 1.99 ERA. He was the third pick and first pitcher taken in the Major League Baseball phase of the Rule 5 draft, in December 2003 by the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. Alec was returned to the Braves in late March by|2004 after not making the Devil Rays major league team out of spring training. Alec spent the entire 2004 season in Double-A. He was the Greenville Braves Community Service Player of the Year 2004.

On December 13, 2004, Zumwalt was traded to the Milwaukee Brewers organization with José Capellán for Dan Kolb. In his first two years with this new organization, he played with the Double-A Huntsville Stars and the Triple-A Nashville Sounds both years. He went on to be named the by|2005 Huntsville Stars in the Community Player of the year. He was promoted August 2005 to the Triple-A Nashville Sounds where he became an active part of the team that would go on to become the 2005 Pacific Coast League Champions. In by|2006, he led the Milwaukee Brewers organization with 20 saves. He pitched the final inning of Nashville’s combined no-hitter on July 15, 2006 vs. the Memphis Redbirds, with Carlos Villanueva and Mike Meyers.

Zumwalt began the 2007 season with Nashville, but was acquired by the Oakland Athletics via trade and assigned to the Sacramento River Cats, their Triple-A club, in May. He was released from his contract in late July and then re-signed by Nashville in late August.

Zumwalt signed with the Camden Riversharks of the Atlantic League for the by|2008 season.

During Alec's career, he has only had one teammate who's last name was behind his, Tony Zuniga during 2005 for Huntsville and Nashville.

Alec is well known as an avid music fan. He lists Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, System of a Down, Explosions in the Sky, The Asphalt and Incubus as his favorite groups. His hobbies are hunting, fishing and golfing. He lists Ryne Sandberg as his childhood hero and Vinny Rottino as his favorite baseball player. Alec credited Rick Hoyt of Team Hoyt as an inspiration for his baseball career.
