Virginia Belmont

Virginia Belmont

Virginia Belmont, also spelled Virginia Belmonte, (born September 20, 1921 in Boston, Massachusetts) was an American film actress of the 1940s.

Belmont received her first acting role, uncredited, in the 1944 movie "Black Arrow". Following that, she starred in several B-movies as the heroine opposite William Boyd, Jimmy Wakely, and Johnny Mack Brown, while on contract with Monogram Pictures.

Belmont was pretty, and could easily project a tough demeanor on screen, leading to her being cast, often, as the independent, strong willed heroine. Some of her more memorable roles were with Republic Pictures in episodes of the serial "Dangers of the Canadian Mounted", alongside Jim Bannon. She was a regular heroine costar to Jimmy Wakely and his western sidekick Dub "Cannonball" Taylor. In 1948 she married an Italian man named Califano, and the two moved to Italy to live. From 1949 to 1957 she starred in twelve Italian films, billed as Virginia Belmonte.

In total she starred in thirty six films during her career, including those in Italy. She is believed to still be residing in Italy, having retired from acting by 1960.
