special purpose entity with financing fromCIMB Investment Bank Berhad, offered to acquire Golden Hope and seven others PLCs "to create the world's largest listed oil palm plantation" company. The merger, the largest to take place inSoutheast Asia , was intended to consolidate over 6,000 km² of plantation land. In biodiesel industry, Golden Hope’s first biodiesel plant at Teluk Panglima Garang, Banting which is operated by its wholly owned subsidiary Rubiatec Sdn Bhd, has begun its maiden commercial production on June 24, 2006. Its second plant is located at East Estate, Carey Island has started operations in May 2007. This plant is a joint venture between Golden Hope and the Malaysian Palm Oil Board in which it uses MPOB’s technology. Golden Hope will build two other biodiesel plants, one in Bintulu, Sarawak and another at Unimills in The Netherlands. When all four plants are operational by early 2008, Golden Hope will be producing a total of 390,000 tonnes of biodiesel a year, all of which will be exported.
