Issam al-Zaim

Issam al-Zaim ( _ar. عصام الزعيم) (—December 142007) was a Syrian economist and former government Cabinet minister. He served separately as both Syria's Minister of Industry and Minister of State Planning. cite news |first=|last=|title= Former Syrian minister al-Zaim dies at 67

Al-Zaim was a researcher at the National Council for Scientific Research in Paris. He was appointed as Minister of Industry in the Syrian Cabinet in 2000. He and the rest of the Cabinet lost their positions when the government resigned in 2003. Additionally, al-Zaim also held the post of minister of state for planning.

Al-Zaim and his wife's assets were seized by Syrian authorities in 2003 as part of a probe into the alleged misuse of public funds by the couple. He and his wife were acquitted of all charges a few months later.

Issam al-Zaim died of a heart attack at the age of 67 and was buried in Aleppo. He was survived by his wife and son.
