Jean Benner-Fries

Jean Benner-Fries

Jean Benner-Fries (1796-1849) was a French painter and textile designer. He was born in Mulhouse, Haut-Rhin, Alsace. Throughout his life, he worked in Paris and England, but was most active in his native town, where the Musée de l'Impression des Étoffes de Mulhouse contains many of his works. He was a naturalist painter, with exotic flowers a preferred subject.

Benner-Fries was the father of twin sons, Jean and Emmanuel Benner, themselves both painters, whose works were exhibited at the Paris Salon beginning in 1857.
