Kokrajhar is an administrative district in the state of
Assam inIndia . The district headquarters are located atKokrajhar town. The district occupies anarea of 3,169.22 km² and has apopulation of 930,404 (as of2001 ).Kokrajhar district is located on the northern bank of the
Brahmaputra river. It forms the gateway to theSeven Sister States . Kokrajhar shares its boundary withBongaigaon (now known asChirang ),Dhubri ,West Bengal ,Barpeta andBhutan .Kokrajhar was originally a part the undivided
Goalpara district. In1957 , under the administration ofBimala Prasad Chaliha as the Chief Minister of Assam, three sub-divisions were created one of which was Kokrajhar. This sub-division was made into a district on theJuly 1 ,1983 .Places of interest
