It provides medical support for the Belgian Armed Forces and its operations, participates inhumanitarian aid and provides certain services to the civilian society. The current Commander of the Medical Component isBrigade General Danielle Levillez.

The Medical Component consists of the following units:
* A medical operational command (COMOPSMED), located inEvere .
* 4 Operational Medical Centres (CMO), located inBrussels ,Leopoldsburg ,Marche-en-Famenne andZeebruges . These centres have a number of so-called Medical Antennas at their disposal, spread across the area for which they are responsible, as well as Advanced Medical Elements (EMA) in order to guarantee medical support for operations and exercises.
* 3 Medical Intervention Elements (EMI), located inDestelbergen ,Ghlin andLanden , which provide the means of transportation for the wounded as well as more specialised medical care in the field.
* A Medical Technical Intervention Element (EMI-Tech), located inNivelles , which is responsible for medical supplies inBelgium and abroad.
* The Military Hospital ofNeder-Over-Heembeek .Equipment
