sort=PAGENAMEDandy Xtreme is a fornightly British comic, published byDC Thomson & Co. Ltd. It is currently the lowest selling children's comic in the UK, with sales averaging at approximately 23,000 per fortnight. A revamped version ofThe Dandy , it no longer features the characters on the cover, but comic strips still feature inside, and continue to be the comic's main selling point.Contents
Comix
Dandy Xtreme refers to
comic strips asComix . The "Comix" were originally a 16 page pull-out within a 20 page magazine, but now the idea has been scrapped and, as of the 17th Dandy Xtreme, are paced in between the magazine features. This is also seen as a cunning way to feature as little comic strips as possible without readers noticing. The number of comic strips per issue has dropped to its lowest ever, recently featuring just 10 out of 36 pages, 2 of which were advertorial material. These comic strips currently feature:
*Bananaman
*The Barff Brothers - two brothers who try to out-gross each other at everything. One of two new strips to appear on 13.9.2008.
*Blinky
*The Bogies - a two page advert.
*Brain Duane
*Cuddles and Dimples
*Desperate Dan
*Dizzy Rascal - title possibly based onrapper ,Dizzee Rascal . One of two new strips to appear on 13.9.2008
*Jak and Todd
*Lucy Grimm
*Marvo the Wonder Chicken - originally an on-off character from 1990-1999, this returned to tie in with a new TV series.
*Pinky's Crackpot Circus
*Puss 'n' BootsThese no longer feature:
*
Beryl the Peril
*Captain Hookless
*Jumbo of the Jungle
*My Own Genie
*Ollie Fliptrik
*Owen Goal
*Red Hot Chilli Dogs
*The Smasher
*Strange Hill School Features
In most issues, there are around 20-25 pages of features. These include:
*Gag Masters - Jokes
*You're having a BARF! - Gross fact page(s)
*Movie reviews (Simpsons, Indiana Jones, Hulk, etc.)
*Eat My Goal - Football page(s)
*Xtreme Games Central - Reviews of games
*Xtreme Nerve Centre - Readers pages, for drawings, gross poems and jokes. More recently, the drawings are including non-Dandy characters, such as Sonic and Super Mario.
*Competitions
*Games/Puzzles
*Advert for following issueOne issue price hikes and confusions
In the issue no. 3447, it told readers that the next issue would be priced at "Only £2.25", meaning that they would have to pay an extra 26p. When the advert appeared in the Beano the following week, it said that it would cost £2.50, meaning that the issue would be 51p more expensive. The actual comic was £2.50, and apparently had 7 "free gifts". These free gifts turned out not to be free at all, and the issue no. 3449 would cost, as usual, £1.99. This issue is to have the usual 3 free gifts. Also, the issue costing £2.50 causes some confusion. The cover says "Every Fortnight" by the logo. The sale date is, strangely, written as "05-JUNE-08 - 13-JUNE-08", suggesting that the comic is weekly. Inside, there is an advert for the next issue. It begins with, "Get ready for a soaking with next week's Dandy Xtreme", obviously suggesting that it is a weekly publication. But, below, near the bottom of the page, it says "Don't miss it! On sale - Thursday 19th June Only £1.99", which suggests that it is fortnightly.
The £2.50 problem happened later on yet again, only this time it had been advertised in both the Dandy and Beano as being £2.99
