History

Jack Simons bought the property in 1929 on behalf of the Young Australia League to use as a Holiday Camp. The YAL sold the Araluen Botanic Gardens in 1985 (but retained Camp Simons). A private company tried to run it as a tourist attraction however it was not profitable and in 1990 they sold it to the State Government, which appointed an Araluen Foundation to manage the park, and then began the process of restoring the park to its former glory and restoring public access.
