Street Combat System
Street Combat System, or SCS, is a mixed martial arts street combat system, created in Scotland. SCS differs from modern MMA, in that practitioners will always wear shoes while training, and there are no limits to the tactics taught. Being a combat art the objectives are to train practitioners to win in a combat situation no matter what, using any means necessary. For example, in sparring light groin strikes and eye flicking/gouging are permissible, and are encouraged in grappling practice.
SCS teaches as part of its unarmed syllabus, complete striking and grappling. The striking arts which influence SCS are Muay Thai, Jeet Kune Do, western Boxing,Krav Maga, MMA and other styles. The grappling side of SCS is called CQC or Close Quarters Combat techniques, which covers stand up grappling, ground grappling and also a variety of weapon attack defence from blunt, edged and close range projectile weaponry.
SCS also teaches its practitioners First Aid, Anatomy and Weaponry such Katana, Sai, Nunchaku, Bo staff, Knife, Short stick, and also improvised weapons.
The founder and head of SCS is John Grubb, however the system is a progressive and evolving one that allows students to tailor it to their own needs- making it an "open" system.
