- C20NE
The C20NE is a
Family II fuel injected, four cylinder engine developed byGeneral Motors in the late 80's. It is essentially very similar to theC20XE , but has a simpler cylinder head design which features 2 valves per cylinder (rather than the four of theC20XE ) and single overhead camshaft. For this reason, the powerplant is commonly referred to as '8 Valve'. The C20NE was factory fitted to earlyOpel Astra andVauxhall Cavalier models, but also found its way into the entry specCalibra . Subsequently, the fitment of the C20NE engine permitted the use of an automatic transmission, particularly in theCalibra where theC20XE developed excessive amounts of power and torque for the automatic box. Although lacking the power of its bigger siblings, the C20NE has proven to be an economical and robust engine, with many examples still running flawlessly today.Engine code
