Sarsapogenin 3beta-glucosyltransferase

Sarsapogenin 3beta-glucosyltransferase

In enzymology, a sarsapogenin 3beta-glucosyltransferase (EC number|2.4.1.193) is an enzyme that catalyzes the chemical reaction

:UDP-glucose + (25S)-5beta-spirostan-3beta-ol ightleftharpoons UDP + (25S)-5beta-spirostan-3beta-ol 3-O-beta-D-glucoside

Thus, the two substrates of this enzyme are UDP-glucose and (25S)-5beta-spirostan-3beta-ol, whereas its two products are UDP and (25S)-5beta-spirostan-3beta-ol 3-O-beta-D-glucoside.

This enzyme belongs to the family of glycosyltransferases, specifically the hexosyltransferases. The systematic name of this enzyme class is UDP-glucose:(25S)-5beta-spirostan-3beta-ol 3-O-beta-D-glucosyltransferase. This enzyme is also called uridine diphosphoglucose-sarsapogenin glucosyltransferase.
