John and Brita Haycraft

John Haycraft (1926 - 1996) was passionate about language and language teaching. He was also a visionary, a man of great charisma who could enthuse others to take on new challenges.

Through his work in International House (known as IH) he created a new profession, English Language Teaching, bringing professionalism and intensive yet innovative teacher training to the teaching of English worldwide.

His work and its impact is well-described in the obituaries that appeared after his death in 1996.

John Haycraft's other great passion was writing, and he found time to write a number of books - not all connected with ELT - throughout his career. All are now out of print but some are available as PDF downloads from www.ihworld.com.
