Hans Melchers

Hans Daniel Melchers (b. Apeldoorn, 18 May 1938), is a Dutch business man. Melchers founded Melchemie Holland BV, and is major (15%) shareholder in HAL Investments BV. With a total capital of Euro 460 milion, Melchers reached a 36th spot in the 2005 edition of the Quote 500-list of the most wealthy Dutch.

On several occasions Melchers got into the spotlight of the Dutch media. In 1984 Melcher's company Melchemie got fined for having delivered chemicals to Iraq. In 1999 the Dutch magazine "Quote", published an article that suggested Melchers was involved in the dead of his ex-wife Kim Lievens. Following a lawsuit, Quote rectified several statements in the article. On September 12th 2005, Melchers' daughter Claudia Melchers got abducted from her home in Amsterdam. When the abductors reportedly demanded 300 kg of cocaine for her release, speculations in the Dutch media about Melchers being involved in the drugs scene emerged. Following lawsuits, these suggestions were withdrawn.

Since the early 1990's till 2007, Melchers was major sponsor of the Dutch Bridge Federaton (NBB). In 2008 Melchers started his own professional bridge team.
