cities =Falls Lake is a 12,500 acre (51 km²) artificial lake located in Durham, Wake, and Granville counties in
North Carolina , USA. The lake is formed by the confluence of the Eno, Little, and Flat rivers, and is in turn the source for theNeuse River . The lake is named for theFalls of the Neuse , a section of the Neuse River that falls from the Piedmont into the lower Coastal Plain and which is now submerged under the lake. The construction of the dam that holds the lake began in1978 and was completed in1981 . The lake provides water for several of the surrounding communities, aids withflood control and serves as arecreation area andwildlife habitat.Popular Culture
Falls Lake provides much of the setting for the 1999 Andy McNab novel Crisis Four.
