The organization began in 2000 and gained recognition from the Eugene Weekly as the first nonprofit professional ballet academy and chamber ballet company in Eugene-Springfield in 2003. Classes at the Ballet Fantastique Academy follow the Vaganova Syllabus and are limited to 5 students per class in the Professional Division (ages 10-professional), and 8 students per class in the Children's Division (ages 4 and up). Director Donna Marisa Bontrager says that this is to ensure that students "receive professional training bolstered with extensive personal attention."
