Frido Frey

Frido Frey

Frido Frey (born October 26, 1921) is a retired American basketball player. A 6'2" forward, he was the first German-born player in the National Basketball Association. ["Foreign firsts". "Houston Chronicle". 23 June 2002.]

Frey attended New Utrecht High School in Brooklyn, where he served as captain of his basketball team. Art Modell described him as "one of the best high-school basketball players in the city". "Cleveland Plain Dealer". 11 October 1992.] Frey then played basketball at Long Island University and with the Manhattan Beach Coast Guard ["Manhattan Beach Five wins". "New York Times". 4 February 1943.] before joining the New York Knicks in 1946. He played 23 games for the Knicks during the 1946-47 season and scored 88 points. [basketball-reference.
