"Still Life 2" is a planned 2009 computer adventure game by Microïds. It is a sequel to the 2005 game "Still Life" and thus an indirect sequel to "Post Mortem".

Development

There was controversy surrounding the first "Still Life" in its lack of an ending. Originally planned as the second of a trilogyFact|date=October 2007, with "Post Mortem" as the first, "Still Life" ended without revealing the villain, setting up for a finalé which, for some time, appeared never to be made. However, on 6 December 2007, Microïds announced the development of this game, which is expected to be released in Q1 2009 [cite web|url=http://www.microids.com/en/press/9/microids-to-release-still-life-sequel.html |title=Microïds announces "Still Life 2" |publisher=Microïds |date=2007-12-06 |accessdate=2008-03-27] . The mysterious antagonist's identity will apparently be revealed in the game. Development of the Real-time 3D third person game was started in June 2007 by Gameco Studios.

In June 2008 a teaser video and screenshots were posted online. The video explores an abandoned mansion with a woman screaming in the distance. The end of the video shows a release date of Fall 2008 [cite web|url=http://gameplanets.blogspot.com/2008/06/still-life-2-teaser.html |title="Still Life 2" Teaser |publisher=GamePlanets |date=2008-06-24 |accessdate=2008-06-24] [cite web |url=http://www.adventuregamers.com/newsitem.php?id=1692 |title=Killer trailer for "Still Life 2" released |publisher=Adventure Gamers |date=2008-06-20 |accessdate=2008-06-24] .

On August 31, another set of screenshots of the cinematic and in-game views were releasedcite web |url=http://www.microids.com/en/press/13/microids-unveils-new-still-life-2-visuals.html |title=Microïds unveils new "Still Life 2" visuals |publisher=Microïds |date=2008-08-31 |accessdate=2008-09-16] . The official game series website opened on 19 September, on the same day the release was pushed back from November 2008 to the first quarter of 2009 [cite web |url=http://www.microids.com/en/press/15/microids-opens-its-still-life-series-official-website.html |title=Microïds opens its "Still Life" series official website |publisher=Microïds |date=2008-09-19 |accessdate=2008-09-19] .

Plot

The game once again follows FBI Agent Victoria McPherson in tracking down and stopping a ritualistic serial killer. Gameplay has moved with the killer, known as the East Coast Torturer, to Maine. The game uses the same storytelling device of switching back and forth between two player characters as its predecessor. The second character is one of the killers victims, journalist Paloma Hernandez, who has been covering the East Coast Torturer's crimes, making the game switch between investigation and survival.

A short introduction to the game was posted on August 31, which covers the dates of October 2 and 3, 2008 in the game. It states that on the evening of October 2 the body of a missing person was found on the side of Highway 201, near Jackman. The video which had been sent to the police and the media identifies the killer as the East Coast Killer. Vic sees Paloma Hernandez reporting on the killing on TV and later arranges a meeting. Paloma is abducted and she wakes up on October 3 in the killer's dilapidated house.
