- The Centurions
The Centurions were a
surf rock band fromNewport Beach, California , active in the late 1950s and early 1960s. In recent times, they are best known for the recording "Bullwinkle Part II", a dark and saxy surf tune from theeponymous album featured inQuentin Tarantino 's "Pulp Fiction". Less well known is the use of "Intoxica," a twangy and upbeat surf instrumental, in John Waters' 1972 film, "Pink Flamingos".Their name changed from The Centurions to The Centurians sometime after 1967 due to legal reasons. When they released their album in 1964, its covers got mixed with another artist's release. Hence the name "Surfers Pajama Party" - which was not the name The Centurions had in mind.
