John Kruth is a
singer /songwriter /multi-instrumentalist best known for his highly energetic “BansheeMandolin ” style of playing. He is also proficient onguitar ,banjo ,harmonica and variousflute s. Kruth is also a musicjournalist andauthor . His most recentbiography , To Live’s To Fly - the Ballad ofTownes Van Zandt , was published by Da Capo Books in March 2007. Rahsaan Roland Kirk was first published in the U.S. and England in 2000 by Welcome Rain Books. Bright Moments was translated into Japanese and published by Kawade Shobo in 2005. The British jazz/experimental music journal The Wire said that Kruth’s writing: “Illuminates Rahsaan Roland Kirk like photographic flash bulbs.” “It’s swirling with fire, humor, audacity and surprise. His research is formidable, his writing is fresh and exciting, and his enthusiasm is irresistible,” wrote David Hajdu, author of the award winning biography ofBilly Strayhorn , Lush Life.John currently has eight albums to his credit. His latest CD, Eva Destruction, was released in December, 2007 by Crustacean Records. The Star Ledger (Newark, NJ) has called Kruth “a major talent, with an understanding of how to craft a first-class lyric.” In November 1997 Kruth performed at
Carnegie Hall as a soloist for composer John Coriglian on the Moroccan folk oboe called the ghaita, commonly played by the Master Musicians of Jajouka.
