"Calliostoma tigris chathamensis" is a large subspecies of sea snail, a marine gastropod mollusc. Some authors have placed this genus in the family Calliostomatidae, the Calliostoma top snails, but most malacologists prefer to leave it in the family Trochidae, the top snails.

Distribution

This subspecies is endemic to New Zealand's Chatham Islands.

Habitat

This top snail is found in beach drift, and its exact habitat is unknown.

hell description

The shell of this subspecies is smaller and more solid than "Calliostoma tigris tigris", and has coarser granulose sculpture.

The coloration pattern differs from "Calliostoma tigris tigris" in that the reddish-brown stripes are very broad, greatly reducing the area of whitish ground colour between them.

The shell height is up to 55 mm, and the width is up to 53 mm.
