"Allium aflatunense" (flowering onion) is a plant in the garlic family, Alliaceae.

Description

"Allium aflatunense" is a 20-30" tall herbaceous plant with basal, straplike leaves, and hollow scapes. The flowers are 4" and purple. Regular flowering time is May and June, with seeds ripening in August. It is commonly sold as a bulb.

Hardiness

"Allium aflatunense" is generally hardy in zones 4-8. The plant can take cutting back and responds well to being used as a cut flower. While it prefers alkaline soil, it can tolerate poor soil as well, as well as part shade (though it does best in full sun).
