Sir (William) Garth Morrison, KT,
CBE , DL (born8 April ,1943 inEdinburgh ) was the Chief Scout of theUnited Kingdom and Overseas Territories from 1988 to 1996. He was educated at the Britannia Royal Navy College in Dartmouth and
Pembroke College, Cambridge , where he graduated in 1966 with aBachelor of Arts . He retired from theRoyal Navy in 1973, and subsequently began a number ofScouting appointments. He was named Area Commissioner forEast Lothian the same year and was then appointed Chief Commissioner forScotland in 1981. After acting as Deputy Leader of the United Kingdom contingent at the Australian World Scout Jamboree in 1987, he was appointed Chief Scout the following year, a position he held for eight years.Awards
On 30 November 2007 Morrison was appointed to the
Order of the Thistle byQueen Elizabeth II .References
