3500 & 1994-96 2500: Auto in|79.9|0The Dodge Ram Wagon was a full-size
van marketed under theDodge brand byChrysler Corporation (laterDaimlerChrysler ). It was a passenger van originating from a commercial van design.The van came in short, extended, and Maxi lengths on two different wheelbases (convert|109|in|mm|0|sing=on and convert|127|in|mm|0|sing=on). The exterior design was updated for the 1994 model year, the first major redesign since 1979, however the headlight shape, grille, and tail lamps were changed somewhat in that timeframe. The dash was changed for 1978 and remained virtually the same through the 1997 model year, after which it was upgraded to include functional drink holders. A Travel Seating option was available from 1978 through the 1994 model year that included a dinette and bed ability. In 1998, the engine was moved forward convert|4|in|mm|0 allowing more room inside the van. The required exterior changes gave the vans a somewhat "pushed out" look in front. In 1995, Dodge changed the series to 1500, 2500, and 3500; in prior years they had been 150, 250 and 350. In 1995 or 1996, the rear armrests went away. In 1997, the front door vent windows became non-functional, and they were deleted entirely with the 1998 redesign.
With the exception of ride and power, there is not a lot of difference between a 2003 Ram Wagon and a 1973 Sportsman Royal. The Ram Van and Ram Wagon names replaced the Tradesman and Sportsman names that had been used for Dodge's commercial and passenger vans respectively.
The Dodge Ram Wagon came in three styles:
* 1500 (109" regular and 127" extended wheelbase)
* 2500 (109" regular and 127" extended wheelbase)
* 3500 (127" extended wheelbase and long-body Maxiwagon)The Chrysler and Daimler-Benz merger in 1998 sparked a series of changes in the Dodge line-up. The Ram Van was one of the first models to be discontinued under this alliance in 2003. Replacement for Ram Van came from Europe (Mercedes-Benz Sprinter) and the new vehicle named Dodge Sprinter.
