- Ponta do Pargo
Ponta do Pargo is a parish in the district of Calheta in the
Madeira Islands . The population in2001 is 1,145, its density is 52/km² and the area is 22 km². It is located west of Calheta and southwest of Porto Moniz. The main industry are agriculture with a few businesses. It is connected with a road linking toPorto Moniz and Santana and toFunchal to the east. The area sits near a mountain slope. TheAtlantic Ocean is to the west. The mountains are to the east. The elevation of the bluff is 392 m. The point accessed by a remote oad and Ponta do Pargo is the westernmost point on the island and the Madeiras. Forests dominates the area along with slopey hulls and several streams as well. It gives access via a remote road to a mountaintop elevating 1,321 m.The most emblematic building of the area is the manned lighthouse ("Farol").Accommodation in Ponta do Pargo is possible in "Residêncial O Farol" [http://www.residencialofarol.pt.vu/] near the lighthouse. Its rooms have seaview.
