- Beechdale
Beechdale - originally named Gypsy Lane Estate - is a
housing estate inWalsall ,England , that was developed predominantly during the 1950s and 1960's.The estate was served by Beechdale Primary School for some 50 years prior to its closure in July 2006. It was demolished six months later, and Hatherton Lane Primary School is now the only primary school in the area. The site of Beechdale Primary School is set to be redeveloped for luxury residential properties with the local council selling the site to a property developer for a reported cost in excess of £20 million.
Beechdale Football Club, the local football team, play and train on a football pitch within the estate. The team has had considerable success in recent years within its division. There are also popular pool, snooker and darts teams on the estate.
Noddy Holder , the lead singer ofSlade , grew up on the estate.The roads on the estate take their names from well known Victorian icons such as
George Stephenson ,Edward Jenner ,Thomas Edison andCharles Darwin . The homes on the estate are of a common design and layout with 2 or 3 bedrooms. However, the western part of the estate that borders with theM6 motorway was built in the 1960s and many of the houses have a slightly different layout. Several blocks of 3-story flats also exist on the estate with 2 bedrooms in each flat.Beechdale is also a housing estate in Dunboyne, County Meath in the Republic of Ireland dating back to the early 1980s. The name has also been given to numerous other housing estates around the country since then, with other variations like Beachdale cropping up as well.
