- Uberstix
Überstix is a construction type toy for both children and adults similar to
Lego andK'Nex and started in 2005. With two simple and basic principles: Überstix parts can directly mate with recycled materials such aspopsicle sticks and drinking straws. This makes it easier to fill out larger projects without spending too much on official parts. Überstix products mate readily with many other common building toys. There is even one part specialized in attaching to soda bottles, this gives an easy start for building a pontoon boat.Uberstix has only eight different pieces to the system. All the pieces are (mostly) flat plastic, with various slots, star-holes, and two-finger clips punched in. The parts all have a large variety of ways to connect into the next, either with locked or free pivoting joints. The common connection types are where two clips bite into each other; one piece passes through another and is locked in place by a third; or a clip snaps around the plastic between two slots in another piece. There are also wide, short nubs that snap into the 8 way slot/star holes. The slot/stars serve a third duty by ringing around a snapped clip to hold the clip's connection more securely. In all, the manufacturer claims from 12 to 55 different connection approaches to any single piece.
