- Bartolommeo Coriolano
Bartolommeo Coriolano (1599-1676) was an Italian engraver of the
Baroque period.He was born in
Bologna , the grandson ofCristoforo Coriolano . He was first instructed by his father, but afterwards became a pupil ofGuido Reni , where he learned wood-engraving. He usually made use of two blocks for hiswoodcuts ; on one he cut the outline and the dark shadows, like the hatchings of a pen, and on the other block the demi-tinte. He worked at Bologna from 1630 to 1647, and was fond of developing the designs of Guido andGuercino . A set of his prints afterCarracci , Guido, and others was dedicated toUrban VIII , who rewarded him with the order of knighthood of Loreto, and a pension.References
