Jimmy B. Bedford

Jimmy B. Bedford

Jimmy B. Bedford (June 10, 1927-1990) was the former head of the University of Alaska Fairbanks' journalism department. He is also the author of "Around the World on a Nickel" (1967). There is a Jimmy B. Bedford Memorial Scholarship [cite web | title=Jimmy B. Bedford Memoral Scholarship | url=http://www.uaf.edu/advance/scholarships/pages/record0024.html | accessed=2007-06-02] set up in his honor.

As a professor of journalism and photography, he was supportive of native Alaska writers: he wrote the forward for the autobiography of Emily Ivanoff Brown ("Ticasuk") [cite web | title=forward to the autobiography of Emily Ivanoff Brown ("Ticasuk") | url=http://www.alaska.edu/opa/eInfo/index.xml?StoryID=203 | accessed=2007-12-12] .
