Serbian Championship

Serbian Championship

The Serbian Championship is a domestic competition of rugby league played in Serbia. The competition started in 2002 when 4 teams played each other twice, once at home and once away, from April through to August. It was deemed a success and so the league continued in 2003. Since then new teams have been added and some have disappeared but the league is now in its 6th season. Originally the league played a very dominant role in Belgrade but the Serbian 13 Federation have recently been trying to expand the game across the country.

In 2007 the league was reshaped with higher criteria to push the league and game further. That resulted in four new clubs being created and joining the league.

erbian National Championships 2007

Five-time champions Dorćol Spiders were the favourites again, but Podbara Novi Sad and Crvena Zvezda (Red Star) Belgrade were aiming the place in play-off final, too. FPN XIII is team of students of faculty of Political Sciences in Belgrade, and it is the first students team in Serbia. Čekićar Niš (Hammers) were dark horses of the competition whose goal was to make Rugby League popular in the southern Serbia, but unfortunately they had to withdraw from the competition due to unforeseen circumstances after three rounds.
