"Inca Gold" is a
gamebook (a form of narrative, usually written in the second person, that allows the reader to participate in the story by choosing various narrative paths using numbered references) in theChoose Your Own Adventure series. It was written by James Beckett and was originally published in 1988 as the eighty fifth book in the original Choose Your Own Adventure series, published byBantam Books. It was republished in 2007 as part of the relaunched series of Choose Your Own Adventure Books, published byChooseco . It is the twentieth book in the republished series. The text was updated in the new version to reflect changes in technology since the book's original release.CYOA
As is the custom for Choose Your Own Adventure, the story is told from the “You” perspective, placing the reader as the protagonist and giving them a new choice virtually every page until they reach end, at which point they have either succeeded or met some potentially terrible fate.
Plot
You are fascinated by ancient archeology and you work with several modern computer programs to learn more about the distant past. One night, you are studying the region of Peru that was once inhabited by the Incas. Your computer alerts you to a straight line amidst the chaos of the jungle—in a region never examined for Incan relics. You won’t know until you get there, but you have a hunch this might be the mythical Lost City of Incan gold!
