Har Mar Mall all was built in 1961, deriving its name from its owners, Harold and Marie Slawik. Twin Cities architect
Willard Thorson , who also designedApache Plaza in nearby St. Anthony, designed the mall. In 1971, the mall was expanded. The mall got another renovation after being heavily damaged in atornado on14 June ,1981 [ [http://climate.umn.edu/doc/journal/tornado19810614.htm 25th Anniversary of the June 14, 1981 Har Mar Tornado ] ] .Until the mid-1990s, Har Mar was in serious decline, losing stores and foot traffic. However, it has since become viable once more, gaining new tenants such as
Barnes & Noble ,Buffalo Wild Wings , andDress Barn . The mall's two movie theater complexes closed in late 2006, as new theaters opened up at Rosedale Center. However, soon to move into the space previously filled by the larger movie theater complex isStaples Inc. Former anchors
