Grenville Parish, Prince Edward Island

Grenville Parish, Prince Edward Island

Grenville Parish is a civil parish in Queens County, Prince Edward Island, that was named by Samuel Holland, during his 1864-1866 survey of the newly acquired British colony. It was named during the period that George Grenville was prime minister of Great Britain, as was Grenville Bay (New London Bay). The communities of North Granville and South Granville are derived from this name, but adopted the spelling more commonly in use when Granville Leveson-Gower, 2nd Earl Granville gained prominence as the British Secretary of State for the Colonies in 1868-1870.
