Klemtu is a small village on
Swindle Island in the coastalfjords ofBritish Columbia ,Canada .Klemtu is the home of the
Kitasoo tribe ofTsimshian s, originally fromKitasu Bay , and the Xai'xais ofKynoc Inlet , these two tribal organizations live together as theKitasoo/Xai'xais Nation . The Xai'xais are a subgroup of theHeiltsuk people. Traditional languages spoken at Klemtu are the southern dialect of the Tsimshian language, calledSouthern Tsimshian , and Xaixais. In religious affiliation, the community is dominated by theUnited Church of Canada .The government of the Kitasoo/Xai'xais Nation is a member government of the
Oweekeno-Kitasoo-Nuxalk Tribal Council .The population of Klemtu in 1983 was 269.
Current population of Klemtu (2007) is 505.
