Fajã da Ovelha ("
sheep belt" in Portuguese) is aparish in the district of Calheta in theMadeira Islands . The population in2001 is 1,016, its density is 42.3/km² and the area is 24 km². Fajã da Ovelha is the least populated parish in density. It is located about 7 km northwest of Calheta. The mountaintop lies to the east and is only accessed by remote gravel roads. Most of the parish is forested, though grasslands are in the north central portion and along the coast and farmlands are in the southern portion of Fajã da Ovelha. The main industry is agriculture, with some businesses. It is connected by a road linkingPorto Moniz and Santana and Calheta andFunchal . TheAtlantic Ocean is to the south.
